Standing in the way of a direct connection between our deeper identity and the world is a surface sense of personal identity that seems forever to be changing and more than a little bit uncertain.
Meditation can address and transform the anxiety we feel when we experience disconnection between our deeper sense of inner identity and the external world.
Our surface identity is like the mixed reflection we experience when we look in a store window from the street. The reflections on the window are superimposed on what can be seen of the store through the glass. Sometimes the outside reflections can be so bright they obscure what is in the store completely.
These reflections are composed of whatever activity is happening in the greater world. When the sun hits the window directly nothing is visible inside. When its raining the window is obscured. At night all the car headlights create every kind of glare and shadow.
In this analogy our deeper identity is like what is contained in the store. Even if we are facing inwards we can't see what's inside because of the reflections on the glass. To really know what is inside we have to be able to enter inside and look around.
