Complicated manmade processes for mining minerals from the earth have been used for millennium but no fancy technology or equipment is needed for plants to mine minerals from the Earth. Our bodies "mine" minerals from the plants we eat supplying us with some of the integral elements that make up our bodies and keep them running.

When a seed falls from the plant to the Earth, it immediately begins absorbing minerals and nutrients from the soil. It needs these minerals to undergo the transformation from seed to plant. Different minerals work in very specific ways within plant, animal and human bodies. To see some of the minerals our bodies need and the function they play in our bodies, see the Nutrition Chart.

Our own life blood is partially manufactured from minerals in the Earth. Iron, absorbed by a plant from the soil, is used for the creation of chlorophyll - a component of sap - the life blood of a plant. We eat the plant and our bodies transform the iron found in the plant into hemoglobin - an essential part of our own life blood.
