Life is Self-Directing

Put another way we see life is real, self-directing, and transformative of itself and its environment. Dead matter likewise can be seen to be real but non-self directing and constrained in comparison to life. What are some of the things this entails?

Fundamentally speaking we would need to ask what is matter compared to life? One possible observation of matter might be something along the lines that it is varying levels and types of hardness. By hardness we mean resistance. Resistance in turn implies different activities that resist or impede each other by acting against each other according to their natural processes.

Matter could then be understood by considering the qualities of different varieties of hardness, resistance, boundaries, or constraints. We experience matter directly through our physical boundaries, qualities like inertia, pushing, being pushed, touch, etc.

The world can then be seen to be comprised of different grades of living matter that have various powers of self-transformation under some constraints all the way to dead matter with no-power of self-transformation. Dead matter can also be said to have maximum constraints. The fundamental dividing line we notice between different types of matter is that the living forms are self-directing and the non-living are not self-directing. Living matter has the power to cross over the line to the non-living, but non-living matter can't cross that line.
